Avery graduated from preschool last night. Her school had a ceremony for the nine children moving on to kindergarten within the next few months. Four of them have been there since they were babies – Avery’s one of them.
As a way to thank the teachers, we made them these flower pots that were inspired from this site I found on Pinterest.
I got two terra-cotta pots, two plants, yellow spray paint, chalkboard paint and paint pens. We have plenty of chalk at home. The example that I mimicked put a ruler in the yellow part, but since this was for a preschool teacher, I thought an alphabet would be more appropriate and a more colorful way to jazz it up.
The first thing I did was spray paint the top rim with the yellow paint. After letting the pots dry outside {and by “dry” I mean “get rained on for 2 hours in a city that literally never rains”} I took them inside to dry some more. With a hairdryer.
Then I painted on the alphabet which is harder than it looks. I was so paranoid that I was going to miss a letter. Nothing like giving your daughter’s preschool teacher a pot with the alphabet painted incorrectly. But we dodged a bullet there. I aced it.
Then AJ applied the chalkboard paint. I’m a little obsessed with chalkboard paint. I challenge you to name one item or room that wouldn’t be more awesome with chalkboard paint on it.
By morning, the chalkboard paint was completely dry, so I used the chalk to write “Thank you for helping me grow.”
For the eight other students, I made these Tootsie Pop graduates. This one was inspired by this site I found on Pinterest. Except I used suckers instead of peanut butter cups because I didn’t know if anyone was allergic to peanuts.
Since I got this idea 24 hours before the graduation ceremony, I was in a time crunch. That I completely put upon myself. I did these in my car between client meetings. To be clear, the car was parked…
I got card stock and string that matched their caps and tassels and taped them onto the Tootsie Rolls.
God I need a manicure.
