Organizing is my drug. I love to clean out closets, organize photos and paperwork, and de-clutter rooms. Organizing is my go-to when my to-do list spirals out of control. It’s an illness, really. It centers me.
This past weekend I set my sights on the most used room in the house – our pantry. It’s not only the place where we keep food, but it’s also where we store the kids’ craft stuff like crayons, paper, coloring books, paint, Play Doh, etc. I wanted to streamline things. The pantry has bothered me for months.
I started by taking everything out of the pantry, wiped down all the shelves and walls, painted the shelves a crisp white to cover all the nicks and discoloration and painted the walls a darker color to set off the white shelves. I bought some stacking wire baskets to organize the kids’ craft stuff and some Lazy Susan’s {dumb name but seriously awesome} to streamline the canned goods. It took a solid day to complete, I was dripping with sweat when I was done and my wrist still hurts from all the scrubbing and painting. And you know what?
You can’t tell a $&*#^% difference. At all.
So here is BEFORE:
Here’s the AFTER. Brace yourself for the complete lack of difference, guys. I can only tell it’s the AFTER picture because it has no food in it. I went on a rampage and tossed everything that had expired. Clearly that was 80% of our inventory.
Here’s a close-up of the non-changed pantry:
And now your life has been completely not changed after reading this post.
