Every time I tell a funny story about my kids, someone says to me, “I hope you’re writing all this down.”
I am.
Every year I buy a spiral bound day planner and put it on my bedside table. The kind where a whole week shows across two pages. I don’t use it to remember future events {that’s what my iPhone is for}. I use it to remember PAST events.
A couple of times a week, I’ll jot a sentence or two about funny stories, sweet moments, milestones, vacations, details of doctor visits, and the guest/gift lists of birthday parties. I even include things like winners of major sporting events and pop culture events {like the Oscars} and world news.
This one is probably my favorite. I got it as a gift a few years ago and it rocked.
However, left to my own penny-pinching ways, I buy myself something more like this.
I’ve been feeling nostalgic this weekend so I pulled out all our old planners. Here are some Avery quotes. You’re welcome.
June 6, 2010
- Me: Avery, I like your shoes.
- Avery: Thanks. Somebody bought them for me.
- Me: Yeah. I did.
- Avery: Yes. NOT your husband.
June 12, 2010: “Mommy, look. Your son is crying.”
December 9, 2010:
- Me to Avery: Ave, look what we got daddy for Christmas – a sweatshirt.
- Avery yelling to Daddy: DADDY! WE GOT YOU A …
- Me to Avery: Hey! Shhh! It’s a secret!
- Avery WHISPER yelling to Daddy: daddy. we got you a sweatshirt for Christmas.
March 14, 2011: Avery yelled at Nolan for taking a ball from her. “Nolan, you are a pay in the ash!”
May 30, 2011: After an afternoon of swimming with my girlfriends, “Mommy, if you pee in the pool like I did when your friends were here, it will make the pool all yucky.”
July 2, 2011: It was 117 degrees outside today. Avery: “Geez! It’s so hot! It’s like 50 degrees outside today!”
July 4, 2011: Nolan smeared lip gloss on the carpet on our stairs. Avery says to me, “If you’d been paying attention, this probably wouldn’t have happened.”
