Our neighbors came over today to carve pumpkins with us. We adore them. They have two kids, a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old girl, just perfect for our little family. It’s all very Norman Rockwell-esque. We’re lucky and you should be jealous.
While the parents were carving the big pumpkins, I set the kids up at their table to paint some smaller ones. We put layers of painter’s tape on a cutting board and used an Exacto knife to “carve” eyes and mouths to place on the pumpkins. After the paint dried, we removed the tape and it looked like a jack-o-lantern. I didn’t make this idea up myself. I found it at one of my favorite blogs. I’m an excellent copier.
AJ and I carved these beauties.
{The ghost one was done with a pattern that comes with one of those inexpensive carving kits. Was super easy.}
I tried to get Avery to help with cleaning out the pumpkins, but her princess hands wouldn’t get near that gunk. I did, however, get her to pose for a picture. The thrill of being the center of attention outweighs her desire to remain clean. Surely this will bite me in the butt as she nears high school, but for now it makes for some fun pictures.
The kids enjoyed noshing on the apple slices and caramel dip we had out for them. Nolan pretty much just ate caramel dip. He ain’t dumb.
I just realized that there is a can of spray paint by our food. Just ignore it. We clearly did.
Tomorrow we’re heading out to the pumpkin patch with some friends then we have Trick-or-Treating on Monday. Bear with me – only two more days of Halloween-themed posts… THEN…BRING ON THE TURKEY!
