AJ goes to work at about 5:00am every weekday morning, so the task of getting the kids ready for the day falls squarely on my shoulders. Between diapers, brushing teeth, doing hair, as well as making myself look minimally presentable for work, it’s a mad rush between 6:30 and 7:30.

I usually wake to giggles and squeals coming from Nolan’s room. Avery plays with him until we wake up which is both adorable and amazingly awesome. She either pulls the stool from the bathroom to climb in and play with him in his crib, or passes him every stuffed animal in the house between the crib slats. I enter the room to a chorus of “MOMMY!” and I feel like the most important person on the planet. After I get Nolan changed, we head downstairs to eat breakfast.

Last Wednesday, Avery tells me she’s still hungry so I ask Nolan if she could have his untouched banana. He said “O TAY” so I handed it over and then made my way upstairs to quickly get ready for work. Little Einstein’s was on to babysit the kids so I had approximately 15 minutes. Yeah. 15 minutes to get ready for work. And you wonder why I’ve parted ways with my straightener. When you have 15 minutes to get ready for work, you prioritize. Let’s just gloss over the fact that I leave my 21 month old alone for 15 minutes at a time. A 21 month old that likes to climb up the kitchen stools to get to the countertop. Just forget that for one second, ok?

Everything was fine. Then, all of a sudden the sounds coming from downstairs were as if they had both been lit on fire – or worse – forced to watch the {gasp} Today Show {I MISS YOU MATT LAUER!!} or some other informational piece of morning news television that wasn’t animated. Sobbing, screaming, lots and lots of “MOMMY”s.

I flew downstairs. I’m no detective, but I think I have this situation accurately assessed.

Avery has a banana-textured, Nolan-sized handprint in the middle of her pink dress and a tear-streaked face. Nolan has the banana – which is completely unscathed, is sucking on a pacifier and leaning on the coffee table watching TV like the chilliest little dude on the planet.

I think Nolan just became a force to be reckoned with.

And now for a cute, completely unrelated picture…

We picked up daddy at the airport yesterday after being gone for SEVEN NIGHTS!!! We made this sign to greet him. Just shoot me an email if you want instructions on how to make this masterpiece. Kidding.
